The Venissa Estate sits in Mazzorbo, an island of Venice that, together with Torcello and Burano, represents Native Venice: an archipelago of nature, colours, flavours and art.
Venissa is a perfect example of a “walled vineyard”: inside it, the grape variety called Dorona di Venezia grows, an indigenous grape of the lagoon, cultivated for centuries and almost extinct following the 1966 great flood of Venice. The wine produced from Dorona grapes is Venissa white wine, one of the most sought-after wines by wine lovers all over the world.
The walled vineyard forms the background of Ristorante Venissa, ten tables where Francesco Brutto and Chiara Pavan interpret the ingredients of Native Venice: fish from the lagoon, vegetables grown in Venissa’s own gardens by nine local pensioners, and the wild herbs picked by the chefs on the estate. Venissa offers avant-garde cuisine, with Chiara Pavan – who won the “best Italian woman Chef” award in the guides L’Espresso 2019 and Identità Golose 2020 – at its helm.
In order to fully experience Venissa, it is possible to spend the night in one of the five rooms of the Wine Resort, within the estate, between the lagoon and the vineyard, or in one of the thirteen rooms of Casa Burano, on the other side of the bridge, on the island of fishermen, lace and colourful houses.
